Marked

This book is written by P.C. and Kristen Cast and is the first book in the House of Night series. This book is about a girl named Zoey who gets marked by a tracker and is turned into a vampyre(I did not spell this wrong, they spell it like this in the book). Since she was having problems at home with her family and at school with her boyfriend, she was not really that upset about getting marked. People who get marked have to go to the House of Night where adult vampyres will teach the fledgings a vampyre's way of life. A fledging either changes into an adult vampyre or they reject the Change and die. Before Zoey leaves for the House of Night, she visits her grandmother. At her grandmother's house she is visited by Nyx, the goddess vampyres believe in. Nyx then gifts Zoey with a filled in mark which only vampyre adults have. Zoey is then taken to the House of Night where she meets Neferet who is her mentor and also the high priestess(sort of like the principal). Neferet then introduces Zoey to Stevie Rae, her roommate, Damien, Shaunee and Erin. They become her best friends and show her to all her classes and try to make her feel at home. After the first full moon ritual, Zoey finds out she has an affinity to all five elements which no other fledging in history has ever had. Aphrodite who was the most powerful fledging before Zoey got here invited her to join the Dark Daughters ritual to challenge her. Zoey accepts and there she meets Erik Night whom she falls in love with. After the ritual, Zoey goes to the east wall and she sees Heath and Kayla from her old school. Heath tells Zoey that they were going to break her out of the House of Night but Zoey refuses to go. Heath then accidentally cut himself and bloods starts flowing. Zoey being a special fledging unlike other fledgings, finds his blood irresistible and imprints on him. Zoey tells Neferet about the imprint and Nefert tells Zoey to keep her distance from Heath and the imprint will fade away. In the mean time, Aphrodite invited Zoey to her next ritual which required them to sneak out of campus and go to the national museum nearby. At the museum, Aphrodite starts a spell which goes horribly wrong and releases many dark spirits. In the middle of all that, Heath appears and stumbles right into the dark spirits. The rest you have to read it yourself. This book is very very very good and highly recommend it. It is not at all like Twilight but it is as good.
